Massachusetts Extends Plan Document Filing Deadline for Employers

July 9, 2007

As previously reported, the Massachusetts "fair share" law became effective on July 1, 2007. In late June, the Massachusetts Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority extended a key July 1, 2007, filing deadline by three months.

This law applies to employers with 11 or more full-time equivalent employees located in Massachusetts. A requirement of the law was that employers had to file their Section 125 cafeteria plan with the Connector by July 1, 2007. In Administrative Information Bulletin 02-07, the deadline was extended to October 1, 2007, and the Connector will not even accept documents until September 1, 2007, or later.

Infinisource previously sent a more comprehensive article on the requirements to its employer clients and insurance agents who are in Massachusetts. A copy of the article is available in the News and Review archive, located at www.infinisource.net.
