What is it: HIPAA Solved is a software solution for creating customized Policy and Procedure manuals for HIPAA Privacy & HIPAA Security. HIPAA Solved is powered by Interactive HIPAA™ software from H.J. Ross – a leading developer of medical compliance software solutions.
What problem does it solve: All HIPAA covered entities were required to be in compliance with the Security Rule no later than April 20, 2005, except small health plans, which must comply no later than April 20, 2006.
In general, HIPAA applies to covered health care providers, Medicare prescription drug card sponsors, health care clearinghouses and health plans – which is defined as any individual or group plan that provides or pays the cost of health care.
The Security Rule contains 22 standards and 42 specifications covering Administrative Safeguards, Physical Safeguards, Technical Safeguards, Organizational Requirements, and Policies, Procedures and Documentation. The Security Rule requires covered entities to:
- Assess current security, risks and gaps
- Develop an implementation plan
- Implement solutions
- Document decisions
- Reassess periodically
All covered entities were required to be in compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule by April 14, 2004.
Enforcement rules for HIPAA Privacy and HIPAA Security rules are now in effect.
